Russian Forces Wrap FSB Patrol Ship in Anti-Drone Cages

Russian forces have equipped a Project 22460 Okhotnik patrol ship of the FSB Coast Guard with anti-drone nets.

The corresponding photos were published by the Two Majors propaganda Telegram channel.

According to the Russian side, the ship received such protection “with public funds.”

Although the specific ship is not named, it was identified by characteristic features of the superstructure.

In particular, this includes a distinctive recess in the lower part of the superstructure typical of Project 22460 ships.

Currently, the FSB Coast Guard in Crimea operates four ships of this type — Bezuprechny, Provorny, Ametist and Izumrud. Two more — Rubin and Zhemchug — are based in Krasnodar Krai.

This is not the first case of Russian forces installing anti-drone nets on ships and boats. On May 11, Project 21980 Grachonok anti-saboteur boats were also reported to have received similar protection.

Project 22460 Okhotnik patrol ships were designed for the FSB Border Service Coast Guard for nearshore and offshore operations.

The project was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, and the ships’ main role is to protect the state border, territorial waters and exclusive economic zone of Russia.

Ships of this type have a full displacement of about 700 tons, a length of about 62 meters and can reach speeds of up to 30 knots. The cruising range is about 3,500 nautical miles, and endurance is up to 30 days.

One of the features of the project is a landing pad for a light Ka-226 helicopter or drones. However, the ships do not have a full hangar, limiting their ability to host aircraft on a permanent basis.

The standard armament includes a 30 mm AK-630M automatic naval gun, heavy machine guns and small arms for boarding teams.

Some ships can be fitted with anti-ship missile systems or additional weapons, but in standard configuration they remain relatively lightly armed.

The ships incorporate elements to reduce radar visibility, including angled superstructure surfaces and enclosed equipment.
