Tensions are growing between U.S. President Donald Trump and one of his closest European allies, with a spat erupting between the U.S. leader and Italian PM Georgia Meloni. The standoff came as Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded a series of major defense deals with Italy, Germany, and Norway in an effort to make up for the lack of military support from the U.S.

Russia’s State Duma approved a new law that allows the Kremlin to deploy troops abroad to quote “protect Russian citizens.” The legislation was passed in its first reading.
