A landslide has forced more than 1,500 people to evacuate the town of Niscemi on the Italian island of Sicily, according to local authorities. According to Associated Press the natural disaster, favoured by heavy rains, occurred on Sunday evening but continued to spread throughout the week. Niscemi’s deputy mayor Pietro Stimolo described it as a challenging four-kilometer front. Italian chief of Civil Protection, Fabio Ciciliano, told a SKY TG24 reporter that the dimension of the huge landslide is 350 cubic meters. The Italian ministry of defence deployed the army to make roads and bridges passable. Firefighters managed to rescue 15 horses, 3 donkeys and 2 dogs that remained isolated for four days due to the landslide.
