In two predawn operations, the U.S. Coast Guard carried out coordinated boardings of two “ghost fleet” tankers: Bella I in the North Atlantic and Sophia near the Caribbean, both of which are linked to Venezuela. Working with the Departments of War, Justice, and State under President Trump’s leadership, teams completed two safe boardings within hours.
Bella I had evaded pursuit for weeks by changing its flag and name but was ultimately tracked by the USCGC Munro. The operations underscore the Coast Guard’s commitment to protecting the country and disrupting narco-terrorism funding.
