The scale of the Ukrainian drone strike on strategic air bases deep inside Russia turned out to be much larger than initially expected, independent analysts who have gained access to exclusive, as yet unpublished video footage of the operation report. Kiev-based security analyst Jimmy Rushton said he had seen unreleased video footage of the attack, which he said clearly showed two FPV drones flying directly into the radar domes of two A-50 airborne early warning aircraft.
The strikes were precise, the detonation occurred immediately after the drones landed on the aircraft hulls. In addition, the footage also shows how several Tu-22M3s were hit. Similar information was confirmed by American journalist and military observer Michael Weiss , who also reviewed the video material. He emphasized that we are talking about extremely valuable and practically irreplaceable units of aviation equipment. According to him, Russia had only six A-50s at its disposal, and now only four.
These are not just losses – this is a strategic failure in the logic of the Kremlin’s air defense and offensive capabilities. In light of these reports, the General Staff of Ukraine also updated the data on enemy losses. Over the past 24 hours, it has adjusted the statistics twice, adding 41 destroyed aircraft to the final figure, including strategic bombers and other combat aircraft. The morning report featured the figure of +12, but after additional verification of sources and analysis of satellite images, the General Staff announced +41 aircraft, bringing the total number of Russian losses to 413 aircraft since the beginning of the invasion.
Additional signs of damage were also recorded at the Dyagilevo airfield, where, according to satellite monitoring, fires were observed near three Tu-22M3 and two Il-76 parking lots. Experts note that due to the camouflage chaos that has begun on the part of the Russian military, it is currently impossible to accurately identify all losses; this requires additional filming and monitoring of the airfield’s activity in the coming days.
The A-50 aircraft are one of the key elements of Russia’s air command. They are used to detect missiles and coordinate airstrikes. The loss of even one of these aircraft is considered critical, since new ones are not being produced in Russia, and the technologies created in the Soviet Union have been lost. A strike on two at once would be even more critical.
