Ukraine launched a missile attack on Kremniy EL Electronics plant in Russia’s Bryansk region. One of the strikes fell on a plant for the production of chips for mobile devices. Video footage released in social media features massive plumes of smoke rising in the site of the attack following the explosion. Located roughly 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, the facility is one of Russia’s major producers of microelectronics used in military equipment. According to local Telegram channels Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has confirmed the attack on the factory in Bryansk that produces control systems for various types of Russian missiles. The results of the operation were reported to the president by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. Two civilians were killed in the incident. One of the victims was a man who happened to be near the plant when the strike occurred. In addition, twelve other individuals were wounded; all of them were taken to hospitals where they are currently receiving treatment. Reports indicate that one missile struck a major urban interchange located close to the facility, an area that also includes a shopping center and nearby residential buildings. Open-source intelligence channels suggest that the site was hit by several successive strikes, which appear to be visible in videos circulating online. The Kremniy EL facility focuses on producing essential parts that are incorporated into a range of sophisticated Russian military systems. Its output supports equipment such as the Pantsir air defense platform, Iskander ballistic missile complexes, radar installations, electronic warfare systems, and multiple classes of unmanned aerial vehicles. These components form a key part of Russia’s modern military hardware and contribute directly to its operational capabilities on the battlefield, including those employed during the ongoing large-scale war in Ukraine. Today’s incident was not the first attack on the facility. The plant Kremniy EL was targeted in a large drone attack during the night of 27–28 April last year.
