Ukrainian airborne troops have fully liberated the village of Berezove in southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, expelling Russian forces from the area. The operation to regain control over the village was carried out by units of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Polissia Brigade. The brigade reported in its Telegram channel that Russian personnel sustained heavy losses during the offensive actions by Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces. Ukrainian troops are also carrying out a planned advance in the Aleksandrovsky direction, and the General Staff states that nearly all of the Dnipropetrovsk region has now been reclaimed. Military operations are ongoing as Ukrainian forces continue efforts to drive Russian troops out of occupied territories. Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War, ISW, stated that Ukrainian forces had advanced approximately 10 to 12 kilometers into the Dnipropetrovsk. Since late January 2026, over 400 square kilometers have been liberated, although five settlements remain under Russian control. Meanwhile, ongoing operations by airborne assault units are focused on undermining Russia’s attempts to push forward in both the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. ISW analysts suggest that effective Ukrainian counteroffensives in the south could significantly disrupt, or even derail, Russia’s planned spring-summer campaign for 2026. Earlier today, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said during a working trip to the Southern Operational Zone that the country’s troops regained control of around 470 square kilometers of the Ukrainian territory and eliminated 11,000 Russian invaders. In his words, Defense Forces continue to relentlessly liberate Ukrainian territory from the occupiers thanks to their courage and unconventional tactics. As of March 8, Ukrainian Defense Forces had succeeded in reclaiming control over a 400–435 kilometer area in the south, effectively disrupting the enemy’s plans for a spring offensive in that region. According to Syrskyi, Russian forces have stepped up their offensive activity across multiple sectors at once; between March 17 and 20, they launched 619 assaults. Meanwhile, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement today that 150 combat clashes took place between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops along the front line. According to the General Staff, yesterday Russian troops carried out 68 airstrikes, dropping 227 guided aerial bombs. In addition, Russian forces used 9,190 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,906 shelling attacks on populated areas and Ukrainian positions, including 98 strikes from multiple launch rocket systems. Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s air force, missile units, and artillery targeted five zones with concentrations of enemy troops and equipment, along with one additional key objective. In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions, Russian troops conducted 69 shelling attacks during the same period, including one involving multiple launch rocket systems.
