Weaning off Russian energy requires political will—and pain | Wider View from Brussels

It’s no coincidence that one of the most recognized symbols of Brussels is a gigantic representation of the atom, erected in the 1960s. It represents energy security, which was and still is seen as vital for European success and development. The message is no different today, nearly 70 years later.

But the circumstances are. Energy resources have become weaponized and play a role in modern conflicts just as much as drones and missiles do. This can be seen with the Druzhba pipeline, regional crises, and the global disruption at the Strait of Hormuz. The stakes are the same either way. Will Europe be able to stand up to energy blackmail and strengthen its energy security? Could the atom be part of the solution?

To find the answers, in this episode of Wider View, we interview Andrea Palasciano, a foreign, security, and defense policy correspondent from Bloomberg.
