Speaking on “News in Depth,” TVP World’s Europe Editor Marcin Zaborowski said it doesn’t make much sense for the U.S. to pull troops out of Europe while the war in Ukraine is still ongoing and Russia remains a major threat.
He argued that Germany was a frontline country during the Cold War, but today that position has shifted to Poland and the Baltic states, making an eastward relocation of troops a logical move.
He also pointed out that relocating large numbers of U.S. troops to Poland would take years, as the necessary infrastructure for army bases and housing military families is not yet fully in place. Zaborowski went on to note that some Republicans in Congress are pushing back against troop cuts, highlighting divisions within the GOP over Trump’s approach to NATO.
He warned that Poland needs to be politically cautious, as accepting troops withdrawn from Germany could be seen as undermining European unity. Still, he added that if such an opportunity materializes, hosting more U.S. troops would clearly strengthen Poland’s security.
