Our main stories tonight:
– A new chapter in Polish-Ukrainian relations could be opening after President Zelenskyy called his first talks with his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki “very positive.” The meeting followed Zelenskyy’s arrival in Poland after months of strained ties.
– European leaders have talked, disagreed, and negotiated into the early hours of this morning to find cash desperately needed for Kyiv’s fight against Moscow. The €90 billion loan now agreed upon for the next two years will come instead of the highly sought-after release of Russia’s frozen assets, which Belgium refuses to approve.
– Vladimir Putin is insisting that the ball on the Ukraine peace talks is back on the West’s side of the court. He also took aim at NATO chief Mark Rutte in his annual end-of-year press conference, held as officials from both Kyiv and Moscow meet with the United States to hash out an end to the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion.
