One dead, one seriously injured in separate Columbus hit-skip crashes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead and another is seriously injured after separate hit-skip crashes in Columbus overnight Friday and Saturday.

The fatal hit-skip crash occurred in northeast Columbus just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday. An adult was running onto the southbound lanes of Cleveland Avenue near East Weber Road and was hit by a dark-colored sedan.

The driver of the sedan left the scene and the pedestrian was then hit by another vehicle while injured on the roadway. The driver of the second vehicle stopped to stay with the victim at the crash site.

Medics arrived and had the pedestrian taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition. The victim was pronounced dead at 2:14 a.m.

Before the northeast side crash, police and medics responded to a separate hit-skip late Friday night at 11:39 p.m. on the southwest side. An adult was crossing West Broad Street near Richardson Avenue and was hit by a silver Toyota Corolla. The pedestrian suffered a fractured femur and was treated by doctors at a local hospital.

The driver of the Toyota did not remain at the scene but police did locate the car and had it impounded.
