Discussions are ongoing in Russia about the liquidation of the Deputy Commander of the Russian Navy, Mikhail Gudkov, who was killed as a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strike on Kursk. There is a version that the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, may have been involved in this.
Journalist Yuriy Butusov wrote about this on Facebook, says Obozrevatel media outlet. He drew attention to the posts of two opposing sides, namely Z-blogger Oleksiy Romanov and top propagandist Volodymyr Solovyov, who supported his opponents. Real showdowns broke out between them, because some are supporters of Gerasimov, while others have the opposite position. It is noted that 42-year-old Gudkov was personally appointed to the position, in which he died by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in March 2025. Until then, he commanded the 155th Marine Brigade.
Putin promoted Gudkov to a much higher position than any other Russian brigade commander. By becoming deputy commander of the Russian Navy, he could become a competitor for the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov.
As reported by Gerasimov’s critic, Russian blogger Alexei Romanov, Gudkov’s place was taken by General Suhrab Akhmedov, who was completely loyal to the Chief of the General Staff and who had bad relations with the liquidated occupier. It is worth noting that Akhmedov, who commands the Russian group in the Kursk region, recently received the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation.” “Romanov thereby directly hinted that information about Gudkov’s whereabouts was leaked to Ukrainians by Gerasimov himself. See the screenshot from Romanov’s channel,” Butusov wrote.
Meanwhile, Gerasimov supporter Solovyov accused several bloggers close to Gudkov, including Volodymyr Grubnik, of handing over a batch of radio stations to the 155th brigade, through which Ukrainians could gain access to the communications system. The propagandist shared the corresponding post on his channel.
Romanov called it an “unproven accusation” and said that Solovyov would not get away with it.
As reported, on July 2, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Major General Mikhail Gudkov, was killed in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation . This happened as a result of an attack on a command post in Korenevo.
Information about Gudkov’s death was confirmed by the governor of Primorsky Krai, Oleg Kozhemyako . According to him, his “faithful comrade” officer Nariman Shikhaliyev died along with the Russian military leader.
Gudkov (call sign “Varyag”) held the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation” and previously commanded the 155th Marine Brigade, which was noted for brutal crimes against civilians and executions of prisoners of war.
Together with him, the deputy commander of the coastal and land forces of the Russian Navy, Colonel N. Shikhaliyev, commander of the 155th Marine Brigade, Colonel S. Ilyin, chief of staff of the 155th Brigade, Colonel L. Bashkadin, and commander of the 1st battalion of the 155th Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel I. Zakirov, were eliminated in Kursk.
