Ukraine’s drone forces have destroyed an elite Russian military drone training center during a large-scale overnight operation dubbed “Snow for Akhmat.” The operation was carried out on the night of May 20 by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces in coordination with the Security Service of Ukraine. The target was a Russian military facility located in the temporarily occupied city of Snizhne in eastern Donetsk region. The facility was used for training drone pilots as well as producing ammunition and components for unmanned aerial vehicles. Footage released by Ukrainian forces on social media showed the strike and its aftermath. Ukrainian officials said the attack hit production and repair buildings where four Russian “Tigr” armored vehicles had been brought for repairs. All of the vehicles were reportedly destroyed. Ukrainian forces also claimed that the commander of the facility – a lieutenant colonel known by the callsign “Buryi” – was killed in the strike. According to the statement, at least 65 Russian personnel were killed, including cadets and special forces trainees from the 78th “Sever Akhmat” Special Purpose Regiment. The attack also reportedly destroyed ammunition stockpiles and drone production components stored at the site. The released video included both drone footage of the strike itself and videos filmed by local residents showing the destruction after the attack, which Ukrainian officials say confirms the facility was completely wiped out. Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces stated that destroying facilities like this weakens Russia’s ability to train drone crews, repair armored vehicles, and supply frontline units. Ukrainian military officials added that Russia now allegedly has only two such training centers remaining.
