Fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ “Skala” unit have carried out a successful operation on the northwestern outskirts of Pokrovsk city in eastern Donetsk region. The unit moved in for an assault near the city sign, where Russian troops had recently tried to plant their tricolor flag. Video footage shared in social media captures a column of Ukrainian military equipment moving in the city. Ukrainian infantrymen’s movement can also be seen in the video. The “Skala” successfully landed infantry and have already secured their positions in Pokrovsk. The objective of the operation – to deliver infantry into the combat zone and establish a foothold – was successfully accomplished. The highway through which the Ukrainian column is moving is one of the main routes into the city from the direction of Pavlohrad in Dnepropetrovsk city. Russians’ attempts to stop the advancing Ukrainian convoy by opening fire, failed.
Being a strategic hub, Pokrovsk has been the focal point of fighting for about a year, with Russian army units seeks to capture the city, wich is dubbed as a “gateway to Donetsk” by Ukrainian media. Last month, the Russian Defence Ministry released video, showing Russian troops freely moving in souther part of Pokrovsk city. Russian forces have been attempting to advance from several directions, putting constant pressure on Ukrainian defensive positions, while Ukrainian troops are working to hold key approaches and prevent a breakthrough into the urban area. The outskirts of the city, especially along major access roads, have become major points of combat as these routes are critical and are used to move troops, equipment, and supplies. Ukrainian units are carrying out counterattacks and rapid maneuver operations to disrupt Russian advances, while also trying to secure footholds in contested zones.
