Ukraine’s Operation Task Force East reported that Russian forces are massing reserves near Donetsk Oblast’s Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad ahead of a fresh escalation. Over the previous month, Ukrainian units defending the agglomeration reportedly killed or wounded more than 1,000 Russian troops and destroyed significant quantities of enemy equipment.
Ukrainian troops are still stationed in the northern part of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, preventing the Russian occupiers from advancing north and northwest. This was stated on Kyiv24 by a serviceman with the call sign "Gus," a pilot of the "Dovbush Hornets" drone battalion of the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade.
Answering a question about the situation around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, he noted that "we are still in the north, on the outskirts of these cities."
"These are the positions of both our brigade and our allies. We continue to hold back the enemy there, preventing them from leaving the city limits and continuing their offensive to the north and northwest," Gus said. According to him, the enemy has been putting a lot of pressure on Hryshyne in particular for several weeks now.
"Let’s just say that attacks there are constant, so we’re not letting the enemy out of the city and we’re fighting for Hryshyne and Rodinskoye," the serviceman emphasized.
He added that if the occupiers capture Hryshyne and Rodinskoye, they could accumulate there.
Regarding the statement that the front would quickly advance 5-10 kilometers if the enemy completely captured Pokrovsk, Gus emphasized that "as for these 5-10 kilometers, surprises have been prepared for the enemy, so to speak."
"And no one will be able to move forward smoothly," the serviceman said. The Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration has been the war’s most active frontline sector for months, with Russia committing massive resources to seize it as part of its goal of capturing all of Donetsk Oblast. Recently, ISW reported that it had not observed evidence of Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk since 28 January, suggesting Russia had likely fully captured the city. The situation around the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration remains difficult, according to the grouping of forces. Ukrainian defenders are detecting signs that Russian forces are preparing to intensify offensive operations by deploying accumulated reserves. Russian airstrikes on the area have also increased, alongside heavier use of other fire assets. Russia is continuing efforts to fully seize both Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Ukrainian units remain dug in along the northern edges of both towns, the report says. Russian forces are concentrating efforts on the village of Hryshyne, northwest of Pokrovsk. The East grouping says Russian troops are simultaneously storming Hryshyne from the north and south while trying to break into its central part. Ukrainian forces are countering the Russian buildup through enhanced aerial reconnaissance, additional mining of likely advance routes, and systematic blocking of enemy logistics. Drone units, artillery, and aviation are actively engaged across the sector. Earlier reports discussed how long the war in Ukraine could continue — from several years to potentially indefinitely.
