Ukrainian forces on February 23 struck a Russian missile unit as well as ammunition depot and command post. Ukrainian troops hit Russia’s 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade, which is equipped with the Bastion coastal missile system in the Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Ukrainian troops struck an area where personnel and equipment belonging to a missile division of Russia’s 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade were stationed in the peninsula. The 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade is part of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, and was equipped with a Bastion coastal missile system. The operation was carried out with FP-2 drones. Video footage capturing the moment of the strike on the Russian position has been shared in social media. The Bastion system, referred to in Russia as the K-300P Bastion-P, is a mobile coastal defense platform equipped with P-800 Oniks supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles. These missiles are reported to have a range of up to 300 kilometers and can reach speeds of approximately 3,087 kilometers per hour. Although it was originally developed to engage naval targets, Russia has deployed the Bastion system against ground targets in Ukraine during the full-scale conflict. According to the General Staff, the strikes were confirmed, though the scale of Russian casualties and equipment losses is still being determined. In the eastern Donetsk region, an ammunition depot near Nyzhna Krynka and a logistics depot near Velyka Novosilka were also targeted by Ukrainian troops. Ukrainian troops also struck a drone command center belonging to a Russian airborne assault regiment near Pokrovka, located in a Russian-occupied part of the southern Mykolaiv region. The General Staff added that Ukraine’s Defense Forces are continuing operations aimed at weakening Russian military infrastructure and undermining the enemy’s capacity to carry out offensive actions.
