The Ukrainian Defense Forces are currently pursuing two strategic objectives to increase long-range strikes deep behind Russian lines. Ukrainian defenders are also regaining the initiative at the front. This was stated by Oleksandr Musienko, a serviceman with the Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military expert, during the "Edinye Novosti" marathon. The expert noted that the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory is growing, including the range of these strikes. According to him, this is currently being noted by international media and analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, with publications reporting that Ukraine is seizing the initiative, including at the front. This is precisely what Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky is demanding: for the Defense Forces to hold the initiative and seize it where possible. "And it’s safe to say that our long-range strike capabilities are expanding. They are currently focused on two major strategic targets. The first is military industrial facilities, especially those involved in the production of missile and drone components. This is extremely important for us. We understand that it’s important not only to strengthen air defenses but also to weaken the enemy’s ability to strike our territory. And the second is oil industry facilities, oil exports, and oil transportation within Russia," Musienko emphasized. In this regard, the expert notes that, given Russia’s reluctance to maintain a ceasefire and its preparations for further large-scale missile and drone attacks in the near future, these strikes will not go unanswered. "We will conduct, one might say, an air offensive campaign against Russian military targets. And we see successes and achievements in this," Musienko added. He also said that if we compare Ukrainian long-range strikes from a year ago, they were characterized by the ability to cover distances, but hits were not always recorded. "Now, starting this year, we’re already seeing that the strikes have become extremely effective, as the actual hits on targets are being confirmed," the expert added. He said the direct hits demonstrate significant progress in the effectiveness of these strikes, the efficiency of production, and the technical and technological solutions used in the weapons used. Work is constantly underway to improve them. As Musienko noted, Ukraine’s capabilities currently allow it to effectively reach the Urals and beyond, but the northernmost regions and the Russian Far East remain outside the strike zone. "In general, the entire European part of Russia, where a large number of industrial facilities are concentrated. Partially in the Urals, Chelyabinsk, and Yekaterinburg. We’ve seen examples of our strikes… As well as in Siberia as a whole, where our Defense Forces are concentrated. We’re reaching out," the expert said. He noted that these strikes lead to consequences for the aggressor. "We now understand that this ongoing stage of the war will be characterized by the need to scale up air strikes," Musienko emphasized. There’s also a recognition that this stage of the war is characterized by a gradual decline in air defense missile stockpiles. This isn’t just due to the war in the Middle East. "Russia’s air defense systems aren’t doing so well right now either, and they’ll likely let through even more," the expert noted.
It is important for Ukraine that our strikes be more effective, that the frequency and intensity of strikes increase, and that Russian capabilities be depleted faster than they can deplete our capabilities. He emphasized that all Russian attempts to advance along the front are being blocked, with no significant gains. The existing achievements are insignificant and tactical in nature. Defense forces are also conducting countermeasures and attempting to restore tactical positions in certain areas of the front.
