Ukraine’s Digital Border System Records Two Million Crossings

Since its launch in December 2022, Ukraine’s digital eQueue border system has registered more than two million crossings by trucks and buses, underscoring the country’s push to modernise its logistics and deepen ties with the European Union amid the ongoing war waged by the Russian dictator.

The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine confirmed that of the two million vehicles recorded in the system, over one million seven hundred and sixty five thousand were trucks, while more than two hundred and thirty five thousand were buses. This digital queue system, mandatory for all licensed vehicles, now operates at every checkpoint for freight and passenger transport.

The eQueue system was first rolled out at the Yahodyn to Dorohusk crossing on the border with Poland and has since expanded to cover every border post for buses and lorries. Poland has emerged as the top destination, with one million one hundred thousand crossings, followed by Romania with three hundred and seventy thousand, Moldova with two hundred and thirty four thousand, Hungary with one hundred and eighty two thousand, and Slovakia with one hundred and nine thousand.

To facilitate smoother travel and transport, the mobile app for eQueue has gained popularity among drivers, having been downloaded nearly ninety four thousand times. The system also boasts almost one hundred and thirty eight thousand registered drivers from various countries.

The Ukrainian government continues its efforts to streamline border logistics. Recently, a new crossing point at Nyzhankovychi to Malkhovychi on the Polish border was opened, with further digital integrations under consideration. Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach announced plans to allow bus drivers to book specific border crossing times at all checkpoints by year end.

This development forms part of a broader initiative to create a unified logistics and customs zone with the European Union, allowing the free movement of people and goods. A pilot project for joint customs and border control is already underway at the Ukrainian Polish frontier.
