Drone Coalition Pledges Over £2.3 Billion to Ukraine in 2025

(Riga) – Members of the International Drone Coalition have pledged €2.75 billion (approximately £2.34 billion) to support Ukraine in 2025 through the large scale delivery of drones. The announcement was made by the Latvian Ministry of Defence, which manages the initiative in partnership with the United Kingdom.

By the end of May 2025, coalition nations had already committed around €180 million (£153 million) to a UK-led joint drone procurement fund. This central fund allows for coordinated unmanned aerial system purchases to complement national aid from each participating country.

Latvia, one of the most active contributors, plans to spend €20 million (£17 million) on drone procurement and an additional €10 million (£8.5 million) on joint defence projects with Ukrainian firms this year alone. The initiative is part of a wider push to boost the production and deployment of drones tailored specifically for battlefield needs in Ukraine.

Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds announced during a coalition summit in Riga that both Turkey and Belgium intend to join the group. “The coalition is becoming stronger. We will deliver more drones to Ukraine and reinforce defence industries across Latvia, the EU and NATO,” he said. “Our unity is our strength.”

Eighteen nations currently form the coalition, including Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Australia, the Czech Republic, France, Estonia, Denmark, Italy, Germany, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Sweden.

The coalition was formed on 14 February 2024, and has already committed €1.8 billion (£1.53 billion) in aid for 2024. These contributions have significantly enhanced Ukraine’s defence capabilities, including precision drone systems for intelligence gathering, artillery adjustment and targeting Russian equipment.

In March 2025, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence confirmed that €20 million (£17 million) from the coalition had been allocated to purchase reconnaissance UAVs, which now play a vital role along the frontlines. Ukraine’s FPV and reconnaissance drones have proved crucial in gaining tactical advantages against Russian forces, especially as traditional warfare continues to evolve into a more technologically driven conflict.

The coalition aims to ensure Ukraine achieves an asymmetric edge in drone warfare, while also strengthening drone manufacturing across NATO and EU countries to support continued resistance against the Kremlin’s aggression.
