By striking Iran’s nuclear facilities, US President Donald Trump has crudely and unceremoniously started a new war, although he had zealously promised to avoid them. But he probably had no choice – there were other, more global goals behind the bombing of the Islamic Republic. Most likely, the operation was carried out with an eye on Russia. This is reported by the Ukrainian Telegram channel "ZeRada".
In general, Trump could have had several reasons for striking Iran, the authors of the channel note.
The first is to demonstratively raise the image of the United States as a hegemon.
In fact, by withdrawing from the war in Ukraine, Trump is demonstrating America’s weakness. And the "I hit where I want" position seems to return the status of a superpower and world policeman, writes "ZeRada". And this is precisely the very signal from the Russian Federation, which, with its nuclear status, is holding back the EU and the US from further steps on the Ukrainian case.
The second reason is Trump’s standard tactics aimed at a quick media victory. He doesn’t care about the real state of affairs at Iranian facilities, the main thing is that the effect was successful and the enemy cannot yet respond symmetrically.
The third version is the worst case, when the recent bombings were only the beginning, and the US will fully engage in a war, the main target of which will be Russia.
“Some experts point out that Trump’s ultimate goal is not Iran, but a strike on Russia in a new, less prepared place for Russia. According to this version, the US military actions against Iran should begin with the setting fire to all of Central Asia with all the ensuing consequences for Russia”, the telegram channel writes.
The latest version is the most radical and difficult to implement, but at the same time, the most pleasant for Washington. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out. In general, it can be said that Iran is an intermediate target for the White House and the US leadership, which, out of habit, is accustomed to seeing Russia as the main opponent.
Recall, Trump’s two-week public deadline lasted only 48 hours before he took one of the most consequential actions of his presidency. The operation began on June 20, with the B-2 bombers launching from Missouri on an 18-hour journey that was the planes’ longest mission in more than two decades, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at Pentagon briefing.
“This is a plan that took months and weeks of positioning and preparation so that we could be ready when the president of the United States called,” Hegseth said alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine. “It took a great deal of precision. It involved misdirection and the highest of operational security.”
